What I Learned from a Speed Round Discussion with Youth

There was something uniquely powerful about the recent speed-round discussion I participated in with youth from our local community, hosted by the Sixth Street Museum District in Hattiesburg, MS, on July 14, 2026.

I enjoyed connecting with preteens and sharing the Unfinished Empowerment Ministry and Organization's mission to empower youth through education, mentorship, and purpose. Initially, I was a little nervous about sitting face-to-face with individual preteens and introducing both myself and my organization. To my surprise, they listened with genuine interest. Then, it was my time to listen. I asked them questions about themselves and was intrigued by their responses. Every conversation reminded me that our young people are full of potential and need opportunities, encouragement, and support to thrive. As I often say, "Investing in youth is an investment in your future."

The Sixth Street Museum District is a hub for rich Black history and culture. It is situated in the heart of a community once known for its role in education, the civil rights movement, and thriving Black businesses, including the Smith's Drug Company.
